1.10 / Naminoue

Naminoue is the most famous shrine in Naha.
It is near the city beach within the same name.

During the first week of the year many people goes there to pray.

To send traditional arrows and prayers.

You read your destiny on a holy piece of paper and you tie.
Requesting the best wishes.
I did mine too, the one on the right side.

After that, there are numerous stalls to enjoy food and plays.

Beside Naminoue is Shiseibyo.
A Confucian temple. It served for centuries as a major center of Chinese learning for the Ryukyu Kingdom.

1.9 / Kokusai dori

Naha main street, more than two kilometers long, in Okinawa capital.
Events plus ...

 

The most atmosphere area with shops full of shisas -Okinawa dragon-, glass items, lacquerware...

... Clothes with traditional style such as in Mango –Oki- , all kind of souvenirs plus... "awamori" the Okinawan sake enriched by habu venomous snake –to me taste as whisky but nowadays I am very focused on wine and beer only-.

There is also the local market in Heiwa dori arcade.
And some deli as ice cream made with fine sea salt or おいしい “castella” at Fukugita.
Plus some shop icons I choose to have a picture with.

1.8 / Mangas in Tsutaya , Tada Michitaro on my memory.

Tada Michitaro on his book "Karada" anticipated a few years ago about how eyes were become the most important over all of our senses, due to new media mostly, at same time he considered this subject was reflected clearly in the "manga" works where the eyes occupy more and more almost all face while nose, lips and ears are hardly represented.

THE SACRED ISLAND movie


                                            From time to time you reach a site, where there is nothing but nature, no "torii", no shrine, no "tera", just  some signs announcing about the holy space,  you can feel it, even also on áreas where you can move freely.

The island has a charming vegetation, beautifully displayed among tiny roads you can walk or ride by bicycle, I enjoyed it.
